African Celebrities: Genevieve Nnaji

Genevieve Nnaji (Genny) is a Nigerian actress and living in Nigeria. Genevieve was born on 3rd May, 1979 in Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria. She grew up in Lagos Nigeria. She is the fourth of eight children. Her father worked as an engineer and her mother was a teacher.

Genevieve had her secondary education in Methodist Girls College, Yaba Lagos Nigeria. She later continued her higher education at University of Lagos in Nigeria. She started her acting career as a child actress at the age of 8 in the then popular television soap opera Ripples. She was introduced into the Nigerian film industry with the movie "Most Wanted" at the age of 19 in 1998. She has starred in over 100 Nollywood movies.

Genevieve has won several awards and nominations including the African Movie Academy Awards for Best Actress in a leading Role in 2005 and The Best Actress of the year award at the 2001 City People Awards.

Genevieve has featured in several commercials including Pronto beverage, Omo detergent, Face of Lux in Nigeria and Face of MUD in Nigeria. In 2008, Genevieve launched a clothing line called "St. Genevieve" which donates a percentage of its proceeds to charity.

Genevieve has one daughter called Chimebuka. She had Chimebuka when she was around 18 years old.
